A favorite moment

What is your favorite moment during a wedding?  I was recently asked this question and as I began to answer I realized this favorite moment has changed for me over the years.  The task of documenting a wedding day involves capturing images of practically every little detail involved in making this day special for a bride and groom.  As wedding photographers we must be able and ready to photograph fashion, architecture, journalism, portraiture, macro and food.  You also have to be ready to quickly use either a natural light source, an artificial light source or a combination of both.  And, we have to be ready to switch back and forth between all of these styles within seconds.  This process is challenging and stressful but it can be very exciting too.  I love the pressure of juggling this job.  That being said, there is a fundamental reason why we all gather on this day.  Why this bride and groom are having a wedding in the first place.  We must not forget the very thing we are celebrating amidst all of dresses, tuxedos, shoes, jewelry, things borrowed and things blue, makeup, flowers, candles, invitations, cakes, champagne, limousines,  and well... you get the picture.

And so, my answer to the question, what is your favorite moment during a wedding, is the moment right after the couple Mr. and Mrs. together for the first time!!  The next few seconds that follow can be really sweet as they look at each other, hand in hand, and begin their walk up the isle as family and friends cheer with shouts and tears.  These moments are completely candid and unrehearsed.  I love seeing the look on their faces as if to say, "Holy cow, what did we just do... I think we just got married!  Yep, that just happened."  Well, that's pretty much what I say inside my head as I photograph this scene.  Hence the big smile on my face.  Okay, okay, I'm teasing a little but seriously I love it.

So, with all of the planning and deciding and hype and stress that surrounds a wedding, let's not forget the heart of why we are all gathered here on this day.

Enjoy these images!
